Chippendale Child Care Centre

Chippendale Child Care Centre

About Us

Chippendale Child Care Centre is a long day care centre that operates 50 weeks per year, from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. We offer early education and care for 36 children each day, with ages ranging from 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Nutritious meals are provided, prepared daily by our fully qualified cook.

The site itself has a long history and association with early learning, having originally opened in 1915 as a preschool, but we have seen quite dramatic changes in recent years.

In 2011, the centre was refurbished to create an accessible, practical and aesthetically pleasing environment for learning.  Particular care was taken to incorporate “green design” in its development, sustainability improvements including; a large rainwater tank, solar panels, extra windows and doors to improve airflow and temperature control, energy efficient fittings and environmentally friendly building materials, toys and equipment. Our commitment to improved environmental sustainability can also be seen in our daily practices, curriculum decision making, and engagement with our local community.

Our indoor environments are designed to support both small group and individual learning experiences, and furnishings and equipment are chosen carefully to help create a home-like feeling of welcome. There are opportunities for both age grouped, and family grouped experiences throughout the day, and children are encouraged and supported to be proactive in co-creating their learning opportunities. We also have a very leafy outdoor play space, making it quite easy to forget that we are located so close to the Sydney CBD!

We have a team of educators that bring a diverse range of professional experience and cultural perspectives to our service. They are passionate about the provision of high quality early childhood education and care, and are committed to continuing professional development in this area.

We believe that warm, respectful and collaborative relationships are at the heart of quality early childhood experiences, and honour families as children’s first teachers. We welcome feedback and contributions to our program, and aim to be a place where families can meet, connect, and build a strong sense of community and belonging.

Chippendale Child Care Centre is currently undergoing consultation with families, educators and children to develop a philosophy that is unique to our community, and reflective of our shared values and beliefs. The key question we are asking is, “What do you value when it comes to: Children, Family, Education and Care and Environments for living and learning?”.

Our Learning Environments

Our learning environments are designed to support both small group and individual learning experiences, and our furnishings and equipment are chosen carefully to help create a warm, natural and home-like service.

There are opportunities for both age grouped, and family grouped experiences throughout the day, and children are encouraged and supported to be proactive in co-creating their learning opportunities.

Our play-based curriculum incorporates a School Readiness Program that has been developed with reference to the developmental needs of children in their first year of school.

We are open 50 weeks per year, from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.  Nutritious meals are provided, prepared daily by our fully qualified cook.
